Our dog, Emma, just turned 7 years old two days ago. She never, ever heads for the door to tell us she needs to go. Only on very rare occasions has she done that after she’s been sick on the floor already and needs to go.
Instead, she usually sits in front of you staring at you intensely. It’s just that she may do that even if she doesn’t have to go, she just thinks it’s time for “her walk” . And she thinks it’s time for her walk when supper is finished! It’s just that we usually don’t walk her until another hour – hour has gone by and we’ve had our coffee. (she has a walk in the morning and the girls take her out after school, too) That means there may be a staring contest if you don’t put your foot down and tell her to go lay down somewhere and leave you alone until YOU decide when to leave.
The last two, three days she has started to go out in the hallway and sit in front of the door and stare at it. If no one sees her doing it, she’ll bark once. I like that approach SO much better than the staring thing! I guess it IS possible for an old dog to learn new tricks!
