Dinner at Mom’s

January 1, 2010 · Leave a Comment

I like having dinner at Mom’s. First of all: I’m not the one cooking. Second: It’s a dinner in the home where I lived when I was a teenager. It’s all homey to me. Mom and Dad built the house and we moved in when I was 14. We had pork roast, sauerkraut and the best gravy. Then we had coffee and apple cake and other goodies that left me stuffed.

Good thing I walked Emma there and back. That was good for her, too:

Bill and the girls took the car . The girls have bad colds and it’s cold out still. Before dinner they tucked a blanket around themselves and  read aloud from the Stephenie Meyer book that Kristi is into these days.

Now we are back home and I am going to spend some time on my knitting while watching Harry Potter. Again.

Patting myself on the back.

January 1, 2010 · 1 Comment

First rounds of intarsia knitting- and I seriously suck at it! But to my defense: For every round I’m getting more of an understanding of how to juggle the strands of yarn. The trick is to also prepare for the next round so the strands are in the right place for what’s coming.. So far it look like a bumbpy road of many colours. I take comfort in that a bit of a gentle press with a wet cloth and an iron afterwards will conceal the worst..

Happy New Year

January 1, 2010 · Leave a Comment

The girls are sleeping, I’ve had my first big mug of coffee. Soon I’m going in the shower. We kept it up until two o’clock last night. Around midnight we watched the fireworks outside and got to talk to some neighbours.

We are going to my mother’ for dinner today and I am looking forward to it. Tomorrow the Christmas stuff is going back in its boxes and the tree goes out the door.  (And the endless flow of needles on the floor will disappear with it!!)

I mentioned in an earlier posting that this blog is not for being political, I have made a decision to stay away from opinionated statements in here. I keep the blog more or less free of the complicated stuff.

I am not the one to make a lot of new year’s resolutions either, but I often have hopes for what a year will entail for me and my family. Other than that I’m just too much of a realist to spend a lot of time dreaming about things. Besides, I am a privileged person with a privileged life. Yes, we’ve had many things come our way that we would’ve preferred to live without experiencing, I face problems I don’t always know how to deal with. There are difficult issues that can’t even seem to have easy solutions that’ll make all of us happy either. Who doesn’t face – at least- some of these things?  I’d rather focus on what I’m grateful for if anythingwhen a new year begins. I am grateful for the ability.

I have to appreciate the little, good things in my life on an everyday basis! All those little good things help get through the not-so-good stuff that is bound to hit you every now and then.

About knitting: I have finally brought out the back of Bills Vintage Fish Jacket and intend to finish it in January. Man, all the strands of yarn to deal with on the back of this intarsia knitting!

Back from a night out!

December 31, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Oh, the mustard, smoked meat and cheese sandwich tastes wonderful when you get home from a few hours at the pub wedged in between too many people for  four hours listening to live music that really is too loud for the small facility yet it’s nice because you can remember all the tunes from when you were young!

Rescue operation

December 30, 2009 · 1 Comment

So the day started nicely with me planning on knitting and watching “White Christmas” after making the house a bit more presentable. But Hubby, who had taken the snow mobile to the mountains and slept over at the cottage for a night, called. His car wouldn’t start and it was MINUS 26 DEGREES CELCIUS!  I called the car rescue company but they had 20 cars waiting to get picked up  so I opted for rescuing Hubby and leaving it to the car rescue people to deal with the car in due time. Someone had already tried to give him a boost with cables but without result. Still, I brought ours so we could give it some time and try again. It worked luckily and got back down to “only” minus 15 in town.

Oha, it’s cold out there! Still we’ll go out tonight, an old local band has decided to get together tonight to play at the local pub  in memory of Bills friend who died  this year, he used to be a part of the band . Besides, my friend whom I only see two, three times a year is in town and will meet us there. So we’ll leave the comfort of a hopping warm fireplace with strict orders to the girls of keeping it hopping until we get back!

Jammin’!

December 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

When I visited my friend T last night she brought out the mouth harp I so maliciously gave her for Christmas! Oh the difficulty in trying to make it give out some sound of sort.. Oh the dizzy brain from the ressonance the teeth sends into the innermost places of your  head. Oh the laughs I got from it!

Home exam

December 29, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I started working on my home exam essay after Bill left with the snow mobile to go to the cottage with some firewood and propane. So far I have several fragments of ideas I might use and quotes from the theory we are supposed to incorparate..

Now I’m having a break giving Chai Latte a try. I will do a few rounds on the sock I started a few weeks back and browse Hobbyboden for a while

The girls and I have to decide on what to get for supper… So far they have just poked around in house coats or flanell pants the lazy teenagers!

The car is totally frozen from a cold night and today is no better. Towards the new year they are calling for even colder weather! Just have to keep a little fire going , that’s all..

Wish I didn’t have to venture out at all..
